Rawness, dynamic interpretations, and compositional honesty. These are the qualities of the new signing of Jalapeno Records, the blues singer Izo FitzRoy.
Born and raised in London, Izo’s music is influenced by the power of female blues legends like Janis Joplin, along with the sincere lyric of a soul men like Bill Withers, fused with her gospel roots after years of singing, leading and directing choirs on tour.
His songs are made for direct, sincere and convincing lyrics on a melodic basis. It passes effortlessly from the studio versions to the live one with a unique formation of 7 musicians that is not the usual one of the soul, if not that it counts on 3 backing singers of accompaniment, to the gospel style. This arsenal provides a bouquet of perfect harmonies for Izo’s voice and his work to the keys with that jazz aroma, differentiating it from her contemporaries in exciting live shows.
During his stay in New Orleans she dedicated to compose and record his debut “Skyline”, published by Jalapeno Records in February 2017. The production was carried out by heavyweight Dr. Rubberfunk, who had proposed to her on Twitter to collaborate on the song “Day by Day”. This creative tandem blossomed and soon grew from a track to an album full of gospel, warm blues and the funky vintage groove of the good Doctor. His music has been played on BBC 6 Music, BBC London, or on the prestigious Today’s Top Tune of the LA radio station KCRW. Also the online presence in media such as Clash Magazine, Indie Shuffle, Eton Messy and La Belle Musique, or written in Blues & Soul, Echoes, Uncut, Classic Rock Magazine or Daily Express give a good account of its quality.
